DON'T MAKE HOME CARE AN AUTUMN AGENDA - 7/15/03
Elder Services has been advised by Mass Home care as follows:
Speaker Finneran told members on Monday: "The chair will assess what remains of the governor’s veto message, what has urgency and immediacy and items that may be further considered and reviewed in the fall. Members should anticipate a session on Wednesday and possibly Thursday. If we can conclude the business in a reasonable fashion in one day, we will make an attempt." The Speaker said that Tuesday would be focused on his economic development proposal. We are at risk that our other items will not be taken up unless we begin a final push today!! Please get your people to
pick up the phones today.
Please call, e-mail, or fax your representative today (Tuesday, July 15).
There are still two elderly service overrides not done: $1 million for the home care workers, and $590,000 for the Councils on Aging. These amendments begin with "9110". If these vetoes are delayed until the Fall, the state will give out contract numbers that cut services for seniors. Passing the home care services amendment last week was one part of the equation--but the other 9110 accounts need action NOW, not in September. The home care item passed unanimously (151-0). These items have the support of the Chamber---please don't put this off any longer! Thank you!
Ask your Representative to support these programs and to drop a note to the Speaker today urging him "Don't go home without the Home Care overrides !"
Your calls, faxes, and e-mails have made a real difference - let’s go the distance and cross the finish line in the next few days !
